On behalf of the World Metrology Day Team, we are pleased to announce that the 2017 World Metrology Day website is now live http://www.worldmetrologyday.org/.

The theme for World Metrology Day 2017 is "Measurements for transport". The topic was chosen because transport plays such a key role in the modern world. Last year's World Metrology Day was a huge success; we hope to build on that success in 2017.

The World Metrology Day initiative is jointly organized by the BIPM and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML). On the website, you may download the press release, Directors' messages and poster. Please help us to spread the word about World Metrology Day and let the World Metrology Day Team know by email about the events you are organizing in your country so that we can include them on the website. If you need inspiration, you can see examples of events organized by other National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) in previous years on the website.

World Metrology Day is an annual celebration of the signature by representatives of seventeen nations of the Metre Convention on 20 May 1875. The Convention set the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement and in its industrial, commercial and societal applications. The original aim of the Metre Convention - the world-wide uniformity of measurement - remains as important today as it was in 1875.

The 2017 poster was designed by the National Metrology Institute of the Republic of Colombia (INM).

We not only move ourselves, but also the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the goods we use and rely on, not forgetting the raw materials they are made from. Doing so safely, efficiently and with minimal environmental impact requires an astonishing range of measurements.
Indeed more widely metrology, the science of measurement, plays a central role in scientific discovery and innovation, industrial manufacturing and international trade, in improving the quality of life and in protecting the global environment.

　　2017年世界计量日的主题是运输中的测量。选择这个主题是因为运输在现代社会中扮演了一个非常关键的角色。我们不仅可以运输自己，还可以运输我们吃的、穿的、用的和依赖的其他商品，更不用说制造这些商品的原材料。为了让运输安全、高效并对环境影响最小，我们所需要的测量种类多得惊人。

　　实际上，计量学作为一门测量科学，普遍在科学发现和创新、工业制造和国际贸易、提高生活质量和保护地球环境方面发挥着核心作用。

　　1875年5月20日，17个国家的代表共同签名成立了米制公约组织，为了纪念这个组织的成立，特发起了世界计量日的年度庆祝活动。该公约组织为测量科学以及应用测量科学的工业、商业和社会应用中的全球合作设定了框架。米制公约组织的最初目标是在世界范围内保持测量一致性，在今天这个目标仍然与1875年一样起着重要作用。

　　世界计量日项目由BIPM和OIML共同承办。我们希望你能在这个网站上共同庆祝这个节日，你的国家或计量组织也能够加入我们的年度庆祝行列。

为纪念1875年《米制公约》签署，每年的5月20日被定为世界计量日。《米制公约》为一个支撑科学探索和创新、工业制造和国际贸易、民生改善和环境保护的全球一致的测量体系奠定了基础。

2017年世界计量日主题是“交通运输中的测量”。之所以选择这个主题，是因为交通运输在当今世界中起着举足轻重的作用。我们通过交通往返于各地，也通过它运送吃穿用等生活所需以及构成这些物品的原材料。要保障交通运输安全、高效、对环境影响最小，需要进行种类和数量多得惊人的测量。

世界各国的国家计量院都通过研究、验证新的测量技术来满足各种精度等级的测量需求，以此不断推动测量科学发展前行。测量科学的进步也为氢燃料电池、电动汽车、新一代节能客机等交通运输领域的新发明提供了新的解决方案。各国的国家计量院都在国际计量局的协调下，通过参与国际比对来确保本国的测量结果在全球范围内可靠。同时，BIPM还为各成员国搭建了合作应对测量领域新挑战的平台。国际法制计量组织（OIML）旨在通过制定国际建议，保证包括交通运输在内的各个领域计量技术法规在全球范围内的一致性。

世界计量日代表全世界，肯定和颂扬所有工作在政府间计量组织以及各国计量机构的人们一年来所做的贡献。

交通运输中的测量
商业和人员往来都离不开安全可靠的交通运输。它已经成为了现代社会不可或缺的关键要素之一。
人们对更新、更先进的交通工具的需求可谓不言而喻，而其经济性、环保性否满足日益严苛的要求也同等重要。从自行车到集装箱货船，从汽车到航天器，各类交通工具都需要符合相应的标准。这些标准是国家和国际规范的基础，可以对安全性、经济性、排放量等方方面面的性能提出明确要求。
标准的贯彻施行取决于测量技术和测量标准装置。其中最具有挑战性、需要由国家计量机构提供保障的内容包括：
为保证集装箱货船安全装载，对集装箱进行精确快速称重；
为使飞行器燃耗最低，对低摩擦表面和空气动力学外形进行定量测量；
为支撑管理部门和市政机关对污染程度的监管，对机动车尾气化学成分进行有效测量。
人们对于便捷、高效的交通运输的要求正在日益提高，而支撑着它们的计量、标准等基础要素也将随之面临更高的要求。其中一些要求最终需要通过新技术来实现，如无人驾驶汽车、零排放车辆等，而这些新技术同时也给测量带来了新挑战。

交通运输中的测量
从近几年世界计量日的主题和文章中不难看出，法制计量很大程度上成为了我们日常生活的一部分。从很多方面来说，交通运输也在我们的生活中扮演了重要角色：
水、电和气必须从源头输送到各自的用户端，如我们家里、单位中；
汽油和柴油也必须从各自的源头，运输到精炼厂的油罐，最后再装入我们的汽车和卡车；
蔬菜、肉类等大部分农产品以及日用品需要从产地运送到各地的市场。
公路、铁路、空气、水、电缆和管道等都为人类和/或货物提供了运输的媒介。许多商品如手机、电脑、电视等在一个地方制造完成后，需要分别被运送到不同的零售点。为了满足农业灌溉或城市需要，有时甚至连水也需要进行远距离运输。
OIML约有30项不同的国际建议与交通运输有关，为运输链中各个测量环节所用的仪器设备提供了相应的标准。这些建议对涉及的各类问题提供了解决方案，部分内容如下：
